How can you turn P&L performance into cash?

On Thursday, October 8, we brought together CFOs, management controllers, and treasurers in Lyon to discuss a simple question: Why doesn’t cash generation always match the performance shown on the P&L?

This roundtable discussion, co-organized with the DFCG Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, was a real success! We learned how to turn P&L performance into cash and how each function within the Finance Department ultimately has a role to play.

‍

Highlights of the program include:

  • Management accounting ensures that actual results align with the budget: it provides a realistic and forward-looking view of the profitability of cash flows and equips operational staff with the tools to make trade-offs;
  • The Treasury department ensures short-, medium-, and long-term liquidity: it relies on the 13-week forecast, utilizes various financial tools (cash pooling, factoring, working capital financing, and leasing), and manages relationships with banks.

When the two work together, the result is a reliable and well-understood forecast, a cash culture shared all the way down to the operational level, and enhanced credibility with management, shareholders, and banks.

Our participants: banks and companies, including mid-sized companies and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs):

  • ‍Brice Euvé, our Partner in the Consulting practice, and Cécile Dobras, our Associate Director specializing in cash management;‍
  • Marlène Audry-Dutheil, Head of Group Treasury and Financing at Aldes Groupe;‍
  • Nicolas Dehelly, Vice President of Finance at FIM Medical; ‍
  • Bertrand Potier, Senior Banker at Banque Populaire Auvergne Rhône-Alpes;‍
  • Antonin Teil, Finance Manager at ARC Europe France.

Each participant was able to find feedback that closely reflected their own experience.

‍

In conclusion:

  • Make the shift from financial performance to cash flow performance: leverage management control, engage your teams, and optimize your access to financing!
